It is that time of the year again. Moms are doing the happy dance, kids are starting new adventures and the weather is gorgeous! Yup, school is back in session and we at HarpersLove are getting our groove back on too! We are working on some new ideas for the upcoming holiday season and trying to raise a few dollars to move HarpersLove forward. All small businesses seem to struggle with marketing and getting the word out so we are no different. Our goal is to grab awareness and hopefully results will show this holiday. In the meantime, please help us by sharing our mission with friends and family. We are experimenting with crowdfunding and you can check out our attempt at Indiegogo.
In addition, check out our latest interview by Sylvia Browder. She explores women and entreprenuership on her blog and I was interviewed about my personal experience.
We are back on for our fashion Fridays so follow us on Pinterest to see our latest outfits come together. We love fashion!
Happy Back to School Week!
We are getting ready for the fall and taking this popular look and making it a bit more sophisticated.

Last Friday, I had an opportunity to be interviewed on FoxNewsLive about the role of Mommy-Prenuer. This is a term I call myself because it best explains how my time is spent every day; raising young children and still launching/ramping up a young business.
After I left the corporate world at the end of 2011, I made a decision to pursue an idea that I had. I did not know it then, but what I was doing was Leaning In on both fronts; family and career. A year and half later, my children and I have formed an amazing relationship and my family life, although hectic, feels calm and blissful. My career continues to take twists and turns and I have enjoyed putting myself out there and being uncomfortable, scared, creative, energetic and completely emotional.
The truth is every day I am learning about what next steps to take and what ways to improve my business and my children’s lives. I have met so many other women who are in the throws of this balance and have approached it uniquely. These women continue to be my supporters and have been an amazing source of energy for me.
My dreams for HarpersLove live on and I continue to take baby steps to make it a reality. I do not have the luxury of loads of venture capital funding and time to do what others can do when launching a business. Perhaps that is why HarpersLove will be a different kind of success and it will come with time.
I was asked recently for advice on getting started as a mommy-prenuer.
If you have a great story to share about how you or someone you know launched a business while raising a family, please share. What tips can you add?
This June we have been busy working on getting the HarpersLove brand out there. We know we have something great and like any young company, our challenge is simply getting people to our website. I wanted to share events / blogs that have showcased our product in the last month. Check them out!
We are excited to partner with HalfOffDeals again for a great price for our small wishbone or horseshoe pendant. Check out the details.

Today I met up with an old friend of mine who is one of my favorites and someone whom I have always looked up to. You know that you are good friends when the conversation is normal and enriching rather than a list of everything you have been up to. Having these friends in your life means that you can meet up here and there and leave off where you last stood together. My friend Steve is one of those dear friends.
The reason I am writing specifically about him today is that he is my entrepreneur mentor and someone who has always inspired me to be creative and think at a higher level. This guy is pure genius. He has that rare ability to create magic at every turn and I always look forward to listening to his thoughts, stories, ideas. No matter where he is in his journey, he always generates a very positive glow and while he may not feel it within, he absolutely brings it out in others.
After lunch, Steve reminded me that we graduated business school 15 years ago. I can not believe that we have been friends as long as this and furthermore, I want him to simply know that his compliments today mean the world to me and have ignited a new fire that was burning out. Great friends do that for each other!
Thank you Steve!!!!
Last year at this time, I was spending my time with the web developers discussing the functionality and design of what is now HarpersLove. It was an exciting time because it was my first experience at designing a website. It was also the time when reality hit and I was actually working towards seeing my vision become a reality.
This was a turning point for me and I would love to know what the turning point for others starting their passion projects are. A friend who is in the beauty business suggested that we partner and create a new LinkedIn group called The Passion Project. This group is for anyone who recently started a new initiative (big or small) and it was based on something they love. For me, I love jewelry. For her, it was makeup. The idea is to share and discuss our experiences, lessons learned and so forth.
If you are interested, please join the LinkedIn group, The Passion Project
Yesterday was NY Tech Day 2013 and of the 400+ startups, only a handful were there representing the fashion meets technology arena. Many investors, press and eager job seekers stopped by Pier 92 along the West Side Highway to check out what is up and coming in NYC. This was my first experience and I was incredibly impressed with the caliber of startups and attendees that I met. Although I did not have a chance to walk the event, the businesses I was lucky to be sitting next to, were pretty awesome. We all sat in the fashion section and we absolutely were a diverse set up people and businesses. If you have a chance, you must check out their websites. Here are just a few.
Nyopoly (https://www.nyopoly.com): These very entertaining, Bostonians and smart gentleman were right next to us.
What makes this site different: They have created an entertaining way to shop, introducing the Barter system to e-commerce.
AbbeyPost (site TBD): The owner and founder wore an orange wig all day! Need I say more?
What makes this site different: Abbeypost is a marketplace exclusively for Plus Size women.
Wits & Beaux (site TBD): We were lucky to sit across for the men's version of custom accessories. These boys had a pretty impressive set up. Like custom socks, bow ties and belts? They will be bringing it to you very soon. In the meantime, you can go to their website and check out the fancy socks. These are all made in NYC. My husband scored a pair of free socks and is eager to get his hands on the belts.
What makes this site different: Create your own socks?
LoomDecor (https://www.loomdecor.com): Customization is in. This site offers you the ability to customize home goods. Think custom curtains, bedding, pillows. I will absolutely be ordering some curtains for my home.
What makes this site different: Customize your home dressings. Check!!
Happy Shopping and Designing!
